Hello Parish readers! Or should I say, hey y’all! My name is Erin Shrewsbury and I am so excited and blessed to say that I have joined the AGID team as a summer intern. I am from the small and charming town of Cullman just north of Birmingham where I spent my childhood either in Smith Lake water or in pointe shoes. Currently, I am a rising senior at The University of Alabama where I study interior design. I am passionate about historical restoration and love mixing the old with the new. I’m looking forward to being challenged and soaking in as much knowledge as possible for the next six weeks and I can’t wait for y’all to follow along! Here is a quick little questionnaire about me! IMG_2059   EVERY HOME NEEDS… Love, music, a wiener dog, and fresh flowers! IF I WASN’T A DESIGNER I’D BE… A professional chef or an art museum curator. (Can I be all three?!) MY PERFECT SATURDAY… 80 degrees on a boat with friends and family. Salt water or freshwater, I don’t care! FAVORITE QUOTE… “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.” –Margery Williams, The Velveteen Rabbit LATEST ADDICTION… My summer reading list. Currently checking off Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë and The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan. I highly suggest both of them! I KNEW I WANTED TO BE A DESIGNER WHEN… I was eight years old watching HGTV, drawing floorplans, and reading Southern Living. Who needs Barbie when you have Design on a Dime?! YOU CAN ALWAYS FIND THIS IN MY PURSE… My iPhone, Sketchbook, and too many shades of lipstick. I GET EMBARRASSED WHEN… My mom sings or dances. Sorry Mama! BEST MOTHERLY ADVICE… It’s not a normal day in the life of Erin if my mom doesn’t tell me “Be nice to everybody!” YOU COULDN’T PAY ME TO… Skydive or pretty much anything involving heights. My knees shake on the second floor of a shopping mall! FAVORITE CLASS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL… Mrs. Hood’s 4th grade class where we had a reading loft in our classroom. I can attribute my reading addiction to her class and that loft. LEAST FAVORITE COLLEGE ASSIGNMENT… Anything from my freshman fall semester spent as a Pre-Optometry major. What was I thinking?! GUILTY OF SPENDING TOO MUCH MONEY ON… Clothes and FOOD! I’m the biggest foodie and culinary nerd in town.   Make sure you follow along for the next six weeks as I share everything I learn in my "intern diaries!!" Xoxo, Erin
