Chandeliers are one of the best ways to make an impact in a room. We often get questions about scale and how to hang them - so here are some guidelines to help you choose the light fixture that works best for you! SIZE: The easiest guideline is to go with a minimum diameter about 2/3 the width of the table. A more specific rule of thumb is to take the length and width of the room (in feet) and add them up. Take the sum, change it to inches, and that should be the diameter of the chandelier. EXAMPLE - 15' X 20' room = 35" diameter chandelier. When in doubt - bigger is better! HEIGHT FOR HANGING: The bottom of a chandelier should be between 30" - 36" above a table. We tend to hang them on the low side because it helps make more of an impact. If you find an old candelabra you like but want to have it wired, it is easier than you think! You can estimate $25 per bulb for the rewiring plus the cost of the candle sleeves. If you're in Montgomery, Stonehenge on Cloverdale Road is our favorite place to take all our lighting projects. If you have adequate recessed lighting you may not need to get it wired. Hang a beautiful statement piece with real candles (make sure to light them for a bit so you get the drips!) and you will get all the "wow" without the additional price tag.
